2000 Yamaha YZF-R1 5JJ 28,896 Miles Future Classic Featured on Mid Bike Crisis
Motorcycle Overview
It genuinely pains me to write this advert.
This beautiful 2000 Yamaha R1 is part of my personal collection and is a bike I've always wanted to own. However, with the launch of my new venture, MBC Motorcycles, something has to give, and I'd rather see this iconic machine being enjoyed than sitting in my garage while I continue to put miles on my 2025 Fireblade.
The original Yamaha R1 changed the motorcycle world forever. When it arrived in 1998, it completely rewrote the superbike rulebook, offering litre-bike performance in a package lighter and more agile than anything else on the market. Over 25 years later, the 5JJ remains one of the most important and desirable Japanese sports bikes ever built.
This particular example is becoming increasingly difficult to find. It remains largely original, has covered just 28,896 miles, and has clearly been cherished throughout its life.

Condition
The bike presents exceptionally well for its age and remains a fantastic example of Yamaha's iconic superbike. The paintwork, bodywork and overall appearance reflect careful ownership over many years.
There are a couple of minor marks to the rear seat unit where a luggage rack was previously fitted, but nothing that detracts from the overall presentation of the motorcycle.
As you'd expect from a 26-year-old motorcycle, there are a few age-related marks. The most notable being some light cosmetic road rash to the lower front fairing. This has never bothered me and does little to detract from what is otherwise a very original and well-presented example.
Mechanically the bike is excellent. It starts readily, runs beautifully and rides exactly as it should.
Why Buy This R1?
Clean, original 5JJ R1s are becoming increasingly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts alike. Many have been modified, crashed, converted into track bikes or simply worn out through years of use.
Finding a low-mileage, well-kept example with sensible ownership history is becoming increasingly difficult.
If you're looking for one of the most important Japanese sports bikes ever built, this R1 deserves serious consideration.
A truly iconic superbike that represents the start of a motorcycling revolution.
Reluctantly offered for sale.
I've deliberately priced the bike sensibly for a quick sale as the funds are being reinvested into my new venture, MBC Motorcycles.
Viewing welcomed. Serious enquiries only.
